Family Post about Washington DC

This is a collaborative post.

Chelsea: We had about 24 hours in Washington DC before our flight out to Germany, so we tried to make the most of it by visiting two museums and doing a night tour of famous monuments and buildings. First we went to the National Museum of the American Indian. There were lots of stories and artefacts that touched us and helped us understand more about the indigenous cultures throughout the United States.

Zorion: We went on a bus for the night tour. The tour guide was really enthusiastic and friendly, and asked us all where we were from. We met at the National Achrives then we drove to the Capitol building which was way bigger than I thought it would be. It was had big black fences which were put up after the insurrection and before Biden's inaugural speech. There is a big statue on top which is the Lady of Freedom who is 9 and a half feet tall. No other freestanding statue can be as big as her because in America freedom is the most important virtue.

Zavian: We went to the White House. It has loads of underground tunnels to different buildings. It also has pools and a basketball court. I remember going to the Lincoln memorial too and sliding down beside the stairs. Lincoln was the tallest president and the 16th president. We also went to the Martin Luther King Jr memorial. It was cool because it had a big statue carved out of a rock because in one of his speeches he said we had to rise above challenges, that are like mountains. There were loads of quotes about the memorial and lots of nice cherry blossoms. It was really clean and none of the cherry blossoms were on the ground, it looked perfect. My favourite thing about the night tour was going to the Martin Luther King memorial because it was really nice and the Abe Lincoln one because of the slides.

Cora: We went to the Natural History museum. My brother got a dinosaur pin because there were lots of dinosaur bones in the museum. We got to see the different types of dinosaurs like T-Rex. There were lots of other things too like butterflies, TVs that had shows about atoms and what makes the world and lots of that sort of stuff. My favourite thing was probably the bones because how did they find them? Usually it would just be two or three but they found the whole body. So they must have looked for a long time and then they had to put them together. They had to figure out which one went in the right place.

It was a quick trip but very memorable, especially because it was Zavian's 11th birthday and the Baha'i New Year (Naw Ruz)! Here the kids are having a birthday breakfast from the hotel buffet.
