Heidelberg

Two days ago we went to Heidelberg. It was a 1.5 hour train ride to get there, but the train was pretty comfortable so it wasn’t too bad. Heidelberg is famous because it has a castle. Mom’s friend Katrin showed us around with her son.

Next we took a cable car up to the castle.

The view was really nice. Katrin said that when the sky is clear you can see for miles, but it was a little foggy so we couldn’t.

We looked through the inside of the Heidelberg Castle, which was built before 1214 and was expanded later.

A lightning bolt destroyed part of the castle, and it was cool to see how thick the walls were.

My favourite part was seeing the courtyard and the statues of important people of the time.

In the old town we went to an old cathedral which is now a Protestant church. It was also nice to hear the church music. I never thought an accordion would make such a good imitation pipe organ! We also got fries from Frittenwerk (Fry Factory) and the bubble tea was really good too.

Heidelberg was so beautiful, and totally different to America and Australia, it’s almost as if they are on different continents…

Thanks for reading! And until next time, when the restaurant only sells fries, they should be good.

  1. The fries WERE really good!! I enjoyed playing frisbee and hide and seek next to the castle with our friends Katrin and her son. Hope we can visit them again in the future. Thanks for recording these memories Zorion.
