Pensacola Lighthouse :D
A few weeks ago, we went to the Pensacola Lighthouse. It was built in 1859 across from Fort Pickens. I thought that it was interesting because the lighthouse was white at the bottom and black at the top. The reason why is because it is easier to see in the day and in the night.
Overall the lighthouse has 177 steps. They were metal and looked really nice because you could see through them. It was kind of scary because if someone pushed you, you might fall all the way down. When you were at the top, you could see straight down. I thought it was pretty sad that the people who were working there had to walk all the way up and all the way back down for the whole day and night to put the fuel into the light.
It was very windy when we got to the top.
My brother didn't want to go up so we took a picture of him waiting at the bottom. You can see him in the middle of the photo above.
Inside, they had a diorama of when the lighthouse was first built. It wasn't as tall and it wasn't black and white. It was only white with a little bit of black at the top. We also visited the house where the keeper and his family stayed.
I thought it was cool that the guide who showed us around had the mask that my brother and I wanted to buy but couldn't because it was out of stock. :(
My favourite bit was when we went into the shop at the end and got honey sticks. ;) Bye!
