My First Time to the Louvre

We went to the Louvre on Sunday. It was actually a castle before it was a museum. There was a big glass pyramid too.

It has over 35,000 pieces of art. Even I don't draw that many and I really love drawing and painting and colouring!

We had to get these ear pieces so we could hear our tour guide. She was a very good tour guide because she was very good with kids and she explained it very well. It was a two and a half hour tour.

We learned about Greek gods. There were a lot of naked people statues (that was probably my least favourite part). We got to see a statue of an angel who was coming back to say to the person who won the war, "Great job, you were very good at battle." It was very hard for the people who placed it there because the wings were very heavy, so if they put it too forward it would fall forward and crack. If it went too far back, it would fall back. So they had to find just the right place.

We saw some really cool statues like the sphinx. A sphinx is a half human, half lion. The sphinx had something on its head. It was a snake, I think a python.

One of the stories was about Eris and the golden apple. Do you want to hear one of the stories she told us? There was a Greek god who was having a wedding. He had invited every god except one who he forgot. His name was Eris. He was a mean god. He got a golden apple and put a message around it for the most beautiful goddess. Three women surrounded the golden apple and said, "I am the most beautiful goddess" "No, I am!" "No, I am!" So then the man who was getting married looked at a shepherd and said, "what should I do?" In the meanwhile the ladies were doing something to decide who was the most beautiful by themselves. The first goddess promised "The world will be one country and Paris will rule!" The second goddess promised skills for battle. The third goddess promised the love of the most beautiful woman but she was already married. That caused chaos and the Trojan war.

After we went to the museum, I watched a movie about it called "Hercules". It was a good movie.

There was a lot of decorative paintings on the ceiling. Usually in our houses there are just paintings on the walls. In one room, there were the months written on the walls. One of the goddesses we saw in that room was the same one we saw on another tour when we went to Versailles. It was Diana!

There was a lot of jewellery. We saw tiaras, bracelets, earrings, and the king's crown which was made out of lots of jewels. They were actually glass jewels but they discovered three of the jewels actually belonged to the crown. There was also some pearls and green stone crowns.

We saw the Mona Lisa. We got to go closer than anybody because our guide was part of the museum and helped us skip the line. The Mona Lisa wasn't that famous in the time that it was painted because it wasn't a famous person at that time. But now everyone knows about the Mona Lisa!

In one of the other paintings, there was a lady who had the French flag in her hand. She was showing support for the French. There was a goddess and there was light around her. She was wearing yellow, the colour of joy. The Louvre was very fun!
