Review of Places We’ve Stayed

View from the Frankfurt hotel at night

So far we have stayed in seven hotels, hostels and AirBnBs altogether. The cities we have stayed in were Frankfurt, Paris, London, Brussels, Fussen, Munich and Salzburg.

In Frankfurt we stayed at Ramada Inn near the train station. We stayed in two rooms because we couldn’t find any places with five beds in one room so it was cheaper to get two rooms. We had to have two keys which weren’t labeled so we had to use both of them to get in and out of a room since we didn’t know which one worked. My mom liked it because they cleaned the room everyday, unlike the hostels.

In Paris we stayed in an Airbnb near Montmartre which was owned by a tour guide. We went on a tour with her through Versailles the day after we arrived. I didn’t like that place as much as the hotel because Zorion and I had to share a double mattress bed and he kept on getting annoyed with me because I don’t stay still when I’m sleeping. It had a laundry machine which was good though. One of the other things I didn’t like was that the toilet had a see-through door so it wasn’t very private.

Breakfast tray brought each morning

In London we stayed in a hotel called Tony’s House. This place was probably my least favourite so far because the toilet seat was square and the bottom was circle so your legs touched the bottom which was cold. Also the water in the shower would be perfect for 10 seconds and then it would get really really hot so you’d get burned. Then you’d put the cold water a bit on and it would be perfect for 10 seconds but then it would get really really cold. We learned from a friend that this was a common issue in London because the pipes for cold and hot water come from different directions.

View from the Brussels hotel

When we got to Brussels we went to the hotel and picked up the room key. When we got to the room it smelled like smoke so mom went down and asked for a room that was “no smoking”. The second room smelled better. The bathroom was really nice because it was big and you could actually walk around and you didn’t feel cramped like all the other places. Whenever we walked to go to the train station, there were so many homeless people and it smelled like pee. I felt like vomiting. It was sad people didn’t have anywhere to live and had to pee on the ground.

Only photo we have of this place

Next was Fussen in Germany. We stayed at the Bavarian hostel. You could see the mountainside which was Austria nearby so that was really cool that we were so close to Austria. That was a really nice hostel because everything was clean and it looked new. We had to make our beds when we got there, like put on the sheets and pillow and duvet in the covers. We also had to reserve a time to have our showers so we wouldn’t need to share the bathroom with other people. Luckily there weren’t many people staying there so we didn’t have to worry too much.

The next place was my favourite place to stay so far. It was a hostel in Munich called The 4You hostel. It wasn’t because it was really nice, it was because when you got there we saw a pool table and we could just sit and watch people playing music in the background all the time. It had really good vibes. We also had free drinks because we got a free drink voucher per person every day. The bar tender called Asmew was really nice because every time we got pizza he said, “I hope you enjoy” even though it was the same pizza every time. He started conversation and was really nice. I felt bad for him because he had to work two jobs (electrician in the day) and only got five hours of sleep. He was from Togo in Africa and spoke French, German and English.

The room had three bunk beds and because it was bunk beds we actually had one extra bed which was funny. We had to share a bathroom too but overall it was still my favourite.

Packing up our Salzburg room

Moving on to our most recent place, Salzburg, we stayed in another hostel called AO hostel. I really liked this place too because it was really big so it had a kids TV where “Inside Out” or “Frozen” played all day. There was a pool table and a foosball table but we actually didn’t get to play on it because we were so busy. The bad thing was that we only had four beds so someone had to sleep with mom and dad each night, with two single beds pushed together.

We are currently on a train away from Salzburg on the way to Venice. I wonder what our Venice hotel will be like?
