What We Did In Vienna

Hofburg Palace

We went on a 5 hour train ride in one day. Not all at the same time. It was 2 and a half hours there and the same time back. We were going to Vienna.

It was really cold when we got there. We did a two hour walking tour. We learned about the Holocaust. In Austria, some people graffitied against the Nazis and they made the Jewish people clean it up with acid. There is a statue to remember that.

There was a special type of horse which were Spanish and they could walk in a special way. They do shows.

There were four big statues of a half naked person called Hercules. He had a big club and curly hair. In one of the statues he was about to bash a snake.

We also got to see a big hole which people chucked coins in. I chucked a little coin in too. It was some ruins from the Roman times.

They made a big statue to thank God for not dying during the plague. The tour guide asked us, “How does this make you feel?” One person said “overwhelming” and I said, “It looks like it’s going to fall over.” You could see the king’s chin which is called the “Hapsburg chin” because the rules at the time used to marry their own cousins and they all had the same chin. One of their children was even very deformed and couldn’t walk or speak properly.

There were loads of carriages with horses. Before now, we’ve seen only a few horses and there was also horse poo everywhere. But in Vienna where there is way more horses, there is no poo! That’s because the horses have a little poo bag behind them to catch their poo.

Kasespatzle

After the tour, we went out to eat with my mom’s friend Michelle and her fiance. They took us to a restaurant that had typical Austrian food. There was some macaroni and cheese stuff with dried onions that was very yummy. I also ate some schnitzel with some cheese and ham in the middle.

Spaghettieis

After we ate lunch, we went to get dessert. I got some spaghetti icecream! They basically put the ice cream in a squirty thing and then when it comes out it looks like spaghetti. Then they put strawberry sauce on top to look like tomato sauce and some coconut to look like parmesan cheese.

Sachertorte

My mom got a chocolate cake with apricot jam which is called Sachertorte. It’s the famous cake invented in Vienna.

Before we left, we went to a Baha’i centre. There was a really cool elevator that had two doors: a normal door and one that folded out. Then we caught our train back to Salzburg!
