Foods in Barcelona
In Spain we’ve had heaps of nice food. Here are some of the more traditional things we have tried (otherwise I’ll just have a whole post full of lentils, which is what we usually eat for dinner if we don't go out to a restaurant).
First is the food I enjoyed the most, CHURROS! They were fresh and warm, and the chocolate was real melted chocolate!
This thing is called “Orxata”. It is basically fresh almond milk with some grit. It wasn’t my favourite but mom liked it.
Crèma Catalan was also very nice. It was kind of like Crème Brûlée but cold. It tasted like frozen custard or ice cream with caramel on top.
This is basically a caramel drink with chunks of ice cream. It was spiced too. It was basically a milkshake of the dessert above.
Here we are tasting some fancy olive oil! All of the olives were grown in Spain. The “premium” model even had a wooden case. Who needs a case for olive oil!?
This is a special type of ham. It is called Iberian Ham and it costs around 9 euros a serving, so it may not be an everyday lunch alternative. The pigs are fed with acorns and the ham is way more fatty then normal ham. It is also salted.
Here are some Spanish cheeses. We tried sheep, goat and cow cheese.
This is a paella. They come in lots of types but they are all basically spiced rice with protein. This was my favourite meal so far.

Chips? Nope, they are “square chips” with sauce. Very Spanish.
Here is a Spanish tortilla with egg and potato. We had them for breakfast and the tortilla and salsa were great. This was famous in Barcelona but we actually tried it when we got to Marbella.
Overall, Spanish food is a great refresher from infinite pizza, pasta and patisserie in Italy. My favourite thing was churros.
Thanks for reading! And until next time, the “x” in Orxata is pronounced “ch”.
