Mission Rome Scavenger Hunt
We went to the puppet show in Rome and while we were watching the puppet show, mom gave me a special book. The book was about Rome. There were different pictures of famous things and there were little challenges. When I got to 100 points, I would get a prize! Here were some of the things that we saw and did.
At the Vatican City, we had to find the north face and the east face.
We had to mail postcards from the Vatican with special stamps. We sent four, some to friends and one to ourselves so we had a copy.
This was the Passetto Di Borgo which was a secret passageway for the Pope to escape.
We found a lot of SPQR symbols which means "the senate and people of Rome."
When we went to the leaky boat at the Spanish Steps, we had to read a story about why it was called that. We also had to count the steps. There were 135.
In the Pantheon, we had to find different drain holes and graves. Did you know there was a queen called Margherita married to King Umberto? That's why they call the pizza Margherita and the ingredients represent the Italian flag with red tomatoes, white mozzarella cheese, and green basil.
This showed the places where the floods went up to in Ancient Rome.
When we were at the Mouth of Truth, called the Boca Della Verita, we had to put our hand in the mouth! In the olden days, if they found a robber or if someone was lying, then they would make them put their hand in the Mouth of Truth and they would chop it off!
We got a lot of points at the Roman Forum. This was the Arch of Septimius Severus where we had to find a battle scene and the goddess of Victory named Victoria.
This is called the belly button of Rome or Umbilicus Urbis because it was the middle of the city.
This is the Golden Milestone which shows where all the Roman roads started.
We got 7 points for finding Nasonis and drinking from one! Nasonis are water fountains.
We went to the Colosseum, the biggest place for Gladiators. My favourite part was seeing where the animals were kept.
At the Trevi Fountain, we had to find different things. There was a story about it, too. The story was there was a barber right in front of the fountain and he didn't like the big man statue in the middle of it. He was always complaining to the person who made it. So one day, the builder made a big ball ornament in front of the barber's window so he couldn't see it anymore. We also threw a coin inside which means we are going to come back to Rome again! It was really hard to throw it in because we had to throw it over our shoulder backwards.
The last place where we got up to 100 points was called Piazza Navona. We had to find four animals: lion, crocodile, horse, and dolphin. We also had to find the four men who represented four rivers in the world: Ganges, Danube, Nile, and Plata.
After that, I got my prize! It was a headband, a pin (because I'm collecting pins), and a deck of cards which has pictures of Rome. I really love Rome!
