Babylonian Jewry Heritage Museum

We went to the Babylonian Jewry Heritage Museum in Yahuda, near the airport in Tel Aviv. There were a lot of old things that belonged to Jewish people in the olden days. It was about Jewish people who were from Iraq.

There was something my brother found really fascinating. They used to get naan bread dough and slap it on the sides of the oven. It was really interesting what they used to do.

There was a TV that showed how they boiled rice and grinding pomegranate and other types of nuts. They also showed a dessert that was swirled around in oil then covered in honey.

Then we looked at a baby rocker that they used to rock the baby. We saw some baby clothes.

We also saw different types of prayer shawls and bags to put them in.

Jewish people have a special type of hat which is basically a circle that goes on your head. Sometimes they also use wrapping things when they pray.

There was also a picture of how they made rose water.

They had some symbols called the evil eye and protector eye which protects you. I have a necklace and it has a key on it like this one.

They also have a popular symbol which is a hand. It’s supposed to bring you wealth and good luck.

They showed the different types of herbs and foods and medicines that they used to protect the house.

They also had a lot of things with pomegranates.

There was also some exhibits upstairs. When the Jewish people were forced to leave Iraq, they could only take one suitcase.

They had to live in tents in the hot weather.

I didn’t know any bad things had happened to the Jewish people besides the Holocaust so I learned a lot from the museum.
