Food in Israel

When we first arrived in Israel, we couldn't believe the price of food!! We ate a lot of grocery store meals but here are some of the foods we tried:

Shawarma on a plate

This was a traditional dish with spicy beef stew inside

Falafel

Various kinds of juice... pomegranate and grapefruit were two favourites (unlike this grape)

I had to introduce the kids to one of my favourite treats from when I was living here as a youth... chocolate pudding with cream on top

Baklava

Shawarma in the bread

Lots of fun flavours of ice cream

Flat breads

Kebabs and salads

Zatar (spice mix)

And more fresh bread!  We got bags of pita more times than I can count (which was actually a fair price to pay, too).

Even though the food was tasty, it was a bit painful to pay so much for it.  We almost laughed with glee when we arrived in Amsterdam and saw the price of the groceries. And we used to think Europe was expensive!

We will all miss the warm, fresh pita though.
