My Thoughts on Greece

We arrived in Athens 4 days ago. Athens is the capital of Greece it is famous for the Acropolis which has an Ancient Greek temple for the goddess Athena. These are my thoughts on all the experiences we have had here so far. What we have done so far includes a really cool haircut place, food, transport, some educational trips including the Acropolis and my thoughts on our apartment.

Kebab

The best kebab I have ever had was the one we had yesterday at the Monastiraki Market in Athens. I really liked it because it was not a way too big size and there was no weird stuff inside. When we were in Rome the guy put old chips into the kebab so it tasted old. While we were sitting at the kebab shop waiting for the food there was a five year old kid playing a drum and putting his hand out waiting for money. There were three other kids doing the same thing. While we were in the square there a was another kid also drumming. He was younger than me, maybe nine and he was really good at drumming.

Transport

The trains here were pretty good because they were really smooth. I think maybe the tracks were newer or something. It was harder to navigate or do anything because all the signs were in Greek and we don’t speak Greek. Some of the buses were really nice because they were airconned and the seats were really new but other busses were completely beaten up and when you looked around at the walls it was disgusting with the paint peeling and the seats were not fluffy and soft but they were all flat and compressed.

Educational trips

My favourite educational trip was the Acropolis Museum. Even though the Parthenon was cool, I liked the museum better. It was just airconned, everything was nicely made of marble, there were lots of detailed statues and not like just big columns. I learnt that Athena was not just the goddess of victory but she was actually the goddess also of chariots, weaving, wisdom and horses. How Athens became called Athens was Poseidon and Athena had a contest to decide what the city would be named and Poseidon hit his stick on the ground and made water come out but Athena made an olive tree and promised peace. The people voted for Athena so the city was named after her. That is why it is called Athens.

House review

This apartment is pretty nice. The internet is good most of the time and the blankets are really soft. Now that I think about it, this place is not that nice. The bathroom door does not even open because the floor is being pushed up by something under the ground. When you open the door you have to push the door pretty hard to open it fully. There is no toaster or microwave which means we cannot heat up anything or toast our bread. Also the toilet smells weird. The washing machine is in the kitchen and the first time mum switched it on it made a very loud noise and nearly blew up LOL.

Haircut

The haircut place was called the Black Lotus and looked really cool. It had a Japanese koi fish painting. One of the fish was black and one of the fish was white going around each other like Yin and Yang. There was also a picture of lots of swords stabbed into the ground and a village in the background. The barber guy had lots of tattoos, his name was George. He was a really nice guy. There was coconut candy and toffee in a bowl that you could eat while you were waiting. For some reason it felt like my hair cut took a really long time.

It was weird that when he did my hair I thought he was done because usually when you blow dry the hair then it is the end but he kept on going with thinning the hair and even though he had already cut it and it was nice he kept cutting it again over the same spots. But after that I asked dad if my hair cut took longer than Zorion’s and dad he said no. That was weird that it felt longer than it actually was.

Walking to the bus stop to catch a ride to the airport

My final thought on Athens is overall it is 7 out of 10 because it is dirty and you don’t really feel safe when there are so many people who are drunk. There are lots of beggars and some shops look really dodgy, with all the paint faded. There is also lots of graffiti and dark areas with no lights plus lots of people smoking.

Kids, don’t smoke. It is bad for you. Bye!
