Thailand Memories

Mango sticky rice at the Bangkok airport

This is a joint post between Zorion and Zavian, sharing some of their highlights from our time in Thailand.

Zavian:

We spent a few days in Bangkok. While we were walking through Chinatown there was a person selling shark fins. I had never seen this before. It did not look very appetizing. I bet it would be very chewy and pretty bland.

Also in China town we had Kanom Krok coconut cakes. This was auntie Sunantha’s family business. It was very good. Back in the day she had to wake up at 3am to start cooking the coconut cakes. This small coconut cake business helped pay off 8 kids school and 4 kids university fees.

Yesterday we went out to dinner with uncle Vaughan yum. I had beef noodles. It was surprisingly good and cheap for one plate. It was only two dollars forty (60 baht)!!

Zorion got a spicy curry/noodle thing I can’t remember what it was called. He did not like it because the meat inside was kind of like plastic LOL. Uncle Vaughan got a shellfish salad. He really enjoyed it because he had not had it for about a year! Mom, Dad and Cora got beef noodles like me.

On the way back to the hotel we saw some Blind Buskers. There was a girl singing and a boy holding out a money box both blind. We gave them some money.

Zorion:

At the hotel in Bangkok they had super nice breakfast. They had fresh scrambled eggs with vegetables, pancakes, fresh fruit, and loads more. The juice was way less fresh and was probably cordial with thickener. That was kind of surprising, but juice is juice. My favorite thing was the fresh custard buns. They were served in the bamboo container they were steamed in. The only part I didn’t like was that the baked potatoes were still raw, but that’s fine.

It was all you can eat, which was great because that means more custard buns!

At around noon, Uncle Vaugan took us to one of the most famous Buddhist temples in Thailand. I think it was called “Golden Buddha Temple”. I think you can guess what it’s famous for. If somehow you didn’t guess it already I’ll tell you, the biggest solid gold Buddha in the world! The outside of some parts of the temple like the roof were also painted with gold leaf.

Inside the temple, there is a string connected to Buddha’s finger. This string wraps around the place where people are praying outside. It is to bring the holiness of Buddha outside.

After we left, Uncle told us some stories. He said that there is a large Mormon community in Bangkok. He said that a while ago a couple Mormons were caught peeing on the giant Buddha. Pretty rude if you ask me, or any of the Buddhists.

Thanks for reading! And until next time, just find a toilet, ya creep.
